All that glitters isn't gold

In this paper we define the contribution of DNA binding domains (DBDs) and DBD external regions (nonDBDs) in transcription factor (TF) target selection. DBDs (purple wings) of TFs (butterflies) enable them to bind to short DNA sequence motifs (light from lamps and shiny gold). These motifs are highly abundant in the genome, and to identify the subset of true targets (lamps), TFs require their nonDBDs (sparkly wings).
